ADRIC COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED

No one likes Adric. He is the perhaps the most hated companion of all time. No one would want to see him return. No one really wanted him. But did he really deserve to be killed-off? And more to point could The Doctor have saved him? Yes, he could.

Tegan and Nyssa inquired about this during Time-Flight, but The Doctor blatantly refused, stating that what happened ‘happened’, and there was no point in discussing the matter. The Doctor also stated Adric died saving others like his brother Varsh seen in Full Circle. But Tegan raised a good point, commenting the freighter from Earthshock could still collide with Earth, but Adric didn’t have to be onboard. After all, The Doctor did attempt to land the TARDIS on the freighter before it exploded, but a Cybermen put a stop to those plans. But if The Doctor landed on the freighter, history would still run its natural course, only Adric wouldn’t be onboard. The Doctor realistic could still have saved Adric.

After all The Doctor broke the laws of time during The Waters of Mars and saved the Caecilius family from Pompeii in The Fires of Pompeii when Vesuvius erupted. Or, perhaps in linear terms of Earth history, The Doctor always saved the Caecilius family, it was just Donna’s presence that pushed him on the ‘correct established’ path. The Doctor has broken rules in the past, so why no with Adric. It probably would cause some problems with the space/time continuum, but there really is no reason why he couldn’t.

Whether or not Adric is liked The Doctor certainly could certainly have tried to save him.
